I recently graduated with my PhD from University of California at Berkeley’s
School of Information. From late 2007 to 2011, I conducted a research project on how people incorporate the web into their art and media-making activities and focused on deviantART. I finished most of the research by 2010 and then spent the next two years writing it up.
A great deal of my research involved hanging out online, particularly on deviantART where there a lot of people doing a lot of different kinds of work. I also hung out in Artist Alleys and attended various devMeets.
