My Bio
I recently graduated with my PhD from University of California at Berkeley’s School of Information. From late 2007 to 2011, I conducted a research project on how people incorporate the web into their art and media-making activities and focused on deviantART. I finished most of the research by 2010 and then spent the next two years writing it up.
A great deal of my research involved hanging out online, particularly on deviantART where there a lot of people doing a lot of different kinds of work. I also hung out in Artist Alleys and attended various devMeets.

Hi everyone! Long time no post!
It's been a fun spring for me as I have moved my life out of PhD/School-mode to search-for-job mode. The good news is that I will be starting at a new job in early June. I will put up another post about that soon. I also gave a talk about my research to my department at UC Berkeley, and I am looking for the best place to host the video. Since it's about deviantART I am hoping to host it here, but it's quite different than everything else in the film/video galleries. Details to come later.

For those of you who are still watching this account...
My dissertation has been approved. Four years ago I began this project. The past two years have been two intense years of analysis and writing (with a wedding in there somewhere). Meanwhile, deviantART and all of the people whom I met continued to grow and change and come up with new interesting things for me to check out.
My resolutions for 2012:
1) Figure out the best way to share my dissertation here on deviantART
2) See what I've missed with all of you
I'll be posting some more thoughts about (1) in the next few weeks. I may need some advice...
